It's our first CR meme. Apps aren't yet open, so this is mostly a place to jam for anybody! If you comment to this meme, you have an invitation. Please use this space to talk about characters you're interested in apping, while I use this space to figure out how big the first round might be.

Please note that you do not have to app whatever characters you mention here, and you are not inextricably tied to whatever vampire abilities you discuss here. You're free to change your mind between here and apping.

The tentative open date is OCT 10, with apps opening OCT 05, so I figure we've all got plenty of time to get our ideas in order before then.

ROHESE is a pious cleric of a secret god. She is quiet and withdrawn, which suits her worship well, but she isn't shy. An autodidact, she taught herself to read, and considers her membership in what some would call a cult another way to enrich herself and learn.

Does VASILI truly believe in the order's precepts, or is he just here for the free food and bedding? Charismatic and lazy-- or, he pretends to be-- Vasili is in it for himself. At least, that's what he keeps saying.

VAMP ABILITIES: i'm considering dirt nap, long fangs, and night senses as a combo. abilities that heighten the goth drama but also suit someone who specializes in work in subtleties (lockpicking, etc).
CHARACTER DIRECTION: honestly looking forward to seeing how kaz brekker's infamous willingness to do most things shady/murdery is going to interface with literal vampirism and the setting at large. murder in general, and to survive, isn't going to bother him, but he also does have a heart even if he believes otherwise, so it'll be cool to see what things bring that out in him.
WANTED CR: negative cr always fun, kaz is basically a neg cr machine. people to form alliances with! people he's forced to work together with! other crime-y underworldy types! anyone, anything, really. i've never played him in a game setting before and i'm stoked to see how things shake out.

CHARACTER DIRECTION: Stella is very cool with killing fascists, less cool with killing other people, will be challenged by being thrown into a setting where it's not immediately clear whether someone is a fascist or not. (Presumably.)
WANTED CR: Would deeply love a) CR where the person decides they're friends and wins her over by pure attrition b) rivals/enemies to respected allies (to friends? idk it's a short game) c) people she's primed to feel protective of d) nearly anything else, hit me; she's a bit prickly but we can work things out or just go with negative CR

CHARACTER / FANDOM: Inquisitor Amberley Vail/Warhammer 40,000

VAMP ABILITIES: Pretty sure on Coffin Sleeper & Night Senses (for maximum handicap during the day and because having to deal with a religion that isn't hers will be Fun.) Could go either way on Long Fangs/Shark Fangs, because Amberley is 100% the kind of person who'd slit a throat and catch it in a glass even if she had dainty fangs.

CHARACTER DIRECTION: Amberley has almost certainly condemned entire worlds in her career as an Inquisitor, so killing is no problem. She'll find the blood cannibalism part abhorrent but will do it because she'd regard it as her duty to survive and call down the wrath of her peers on this place. What happened to her afterward wouldn't figure into her calculations. She has strong faith and a moral core, they're just a faith and morality incompatible with any kind of non-awful setting. The time frame of the game is probably not long enough to readjust her perspective unless there's a major metaphysical reveal that she finds trustworthy.

tl;dr she thinks she has to murder everyone here for the good of humanity, but it's nothing personal and she'll feel regretful about it

WANTED CR: Amberley's default "oh shit" mode is to pretend to be like 20 and flaky/in over her head so people underestimate/help her. Characters who buy it and characters who don't buy it are both great.

VAMP ABILITIES:

CHARACTER DIRECTION:

Dettlaff is a weirdo, let's get that out of the way first and foremost— blame it on vampires in the Witcher just being a different species altogether: he's emotionally potent as a baseline and (consistently gets called out for) masking said emotion as often as inhumanly possible, but it's important to note his emotions =/= the same type or intensity as any human counterpart. Because of that, at times, he can be woefully naive, missing even the most obvious context clues or falling prey to indelicate manipulation. He's used to the company of vampires, rather than people. He doesn't understand deception; he doesn't understand lies.

Still, he's been known to go to extreme lengths for humans who've paid him near nonexistent kindnesses— such as giving him an apple. Real easy to win over.

For forever, in fact.

His hierarcy of needs tends to roll with protecting those closest to him > everything else, but anger can easily supersede everything. Irrationality, being part of that anger, is just as much a risk.

Current thoughts I'm weighing are whether or not I want to keep his Witcher!vampire emotional responses/intensity/constraints, or offer him the chance to rapidfire acclimate the way canon never really let him. Either could be just as fun given the morality struggle in this setting, it'd just wind up being a different sort of arc, so I'll make my final call on this before I app. Feel free to weigh in if you've got opinions.

WANTED CR:

Gimme the big soft bullshit— the moments where Detts is weak to simple kindness and driven to reciprocate— give me the absolute awful fallout of confrontation and anger and disagreement. Dettlaff is a good dude at heart, he doesn't want to cause harm without sufficient cause. I kind of suspect that depending on how things shake out, he'll be more inclined to help humans despite being at odds with them.

One side note to be wary of, just because it's a canon plot point, be careful if you want your character in an actual relationship with him: Dettlaff doesn't get love aside from the most intense, possibly uncomfortable devotion you've ever come across. It's a 'packmate' thing, as Regis puts it— no one leaves their pack willingly, you don't back out of it once you opt in, at least not as Dettlaff understands it.

Since this is a short run game I don't think that's a high risk development, if a potential development at all, but just for the sake of awareness pls consider this me highlighting and underscoring the bottom line.*

*if I wind up toning down his W!vampire emotional intensity for being essentially depowered, this won't be as much of a huge deal.

VAMP ABILITIES: Torn between Dirt Nap/Daywalker, then Blood Memories & Night Creature. I'm torn because he would hate sleeping in dirt but he's already a basement dweller so underground is no change, tbh, and his noodly self would have no idea what to do with actual strength at night. Daywalker is because boy would he struggle with the invitation thing, he might have more of a difficult time trying to deal with people in general.
CHARACTER DIRECTION: SO this guy's morality is pretty dependent on other people! He wants to be a good person at heart and just wants to help, but he will also do literally anything for people he likes and is friends with. This can include (and has previously included) things like, uh, covering up murders. Sometimes you're just an extremely lonely person and if somebody is nice to you then you will basically die for them, which is fine when you don't tend to stay dead! You get some weird outlooks on death when you're semi-immortal and live with a bunch of ghosts anyway. He has also never had a conceptual problem with the idea of vampires feeding on people because listen, if you have to eat to survive then that's just how things are-- but it might be different when he has to do it.
WANTED CR: actual good influences, fake good influences-- honestly you don't even have to fake it. you just have to let him get attached and not mind that he's clingy. Also anyone who won't mind him being a Huge Nerd.
ANYTHING ELSE? i have no idea what icon set i'm using, i might stick with the drawn ones here but i also might go with a former pb i used for him?? decisions. plenty of blood in those.

CHARACTER / FANDOM: Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy / The Witcher: Blood and Wine

VAMP ABILITIES: Dirt Nap, Night Senses, Night Creature

This pretty much decided itself, because in the course of pondering our choices I fell in love with two mental images of Regis:
- wearing welding goggles while Doing Science over a flame
- wrapping himself in a blanket like a grumpy babushka while Dettlaff throws dirt on him

(In canon he talks to ravens; here bats will have to do.)

CHARACTER DIRECTION: Regis here began his life as a total shit and has since worked very hard to conduct himself with decency. He's since become a barber-surgeon, an alchemist, a botanist, a hobbyist inventor—basically a big old know-it-all who will make sure you know how much he knows because he loves to know and think and talk about things. Relentlessly.

He was born a vampire, but a very different kind, accustomed to a much broader power set with fewer physical restrictions. Also, being a reformed blood addict, he is absolutely not cool with having to kill humanoids to survive. I'm keen to navigate that alongside his kindly nature. Also also, his very good pal will be here so I must bring him here too, that's the rules.

WANTED CR: Positive, negative, fluctuating, give me it. Regis has special soft spots for misfits and brooding quiet types, and will not be deterred by grumpiness, so if you want someone to be persistent at your character despite their... them... he's your manpire.

CHARACTER / FANDOM: Loki / That Disney+ TV show that happened in July (canon point: end of season 1)

VAMP ABILITIES: DAYWALKER | LONG FANGS | BLOOD MEMORIES

CHARACTER DIRECTION: Loki is always down to clown fuck some shit up as seen here & here.

That said, he's coming right off a bout of being not exactly the villain and kinda-sorta being one of the good guys for a series of moments; unfortunately, it didn't exactly gain him much and he lost access to things (several people he cares about, actually) in the exchange, which poses a problem for him and his need to be the center of attention at all times and also loved by others.

WANTED CR: ALL OF IT. Loki will be heavily leaning on his interpersonal and charismatic skillz as a (former) prince; he's also quite the combatant and will have no qualms about being violent and will be good at teaching/encouraging others to do the same. Obviously, this isn't gonna rock well with folks who are going a strictly diplomatic route and/or are less chaotic than he is. So, positive & negative CR is looked for and appreciated!

Anyway consider me jazzed for probably the weirdest, muddiest cr imaginable as local (former) god of lies meets feral vampire that has 0 understanding of the concept of deceit. It'll be great. Someone might die.

VAMP ABILITIES: Coffin sleeper, shark fangs, blood memories
CHARACTER DIRECTION: A late 1800's Irish-American policeman who absolutely always wants to do the right thing and is deeply religious to boot. He has a very cut and dry view of morality, which is of course going to be exciting to unravel.
Definitely dealing with a whole bunch of repressed rage/guilt/fear that will be at war with the new rules of survival-- not a violent person by nature, he has always tried to live his life by the moral code he follows so stringently, but will fuck a person up if pressed. He wants to be as positive and upstanding an influence as possible both to his community and to his teenage son, whom he was raising alone before appearing here. Divorced energy absolutely off the charts.

WANTED CR: Anything and everything forever. I love negative CR as long as we're having fun OOC, and I imagine some of his opinions are going to be controversial among the PC populace. (I also love positive CR but who doesn't)
Also, anyone who wants to come along for the ride of a Lawful Good churchdad having an extremely bad time.

ANYTHING ELSE? I deffo do not want to step on any toes with regards to faith/upbringing/trauma surrounding Christianity and Catholicism in particular, so if this is a point of discomfort with anyone I am glad to accommodate you and change direction.

VAMP ABILITIES: Dirt Nap or Daywalker / Long Fangs / Night Senses or Night Creature - I'm tired as of this moment and therefore having trouble deciding for sure /shrug emoji
CHARACTER DIRECTION: He doesn't have much problem with killing humans, especially if it feels morally just (by his own standards), and he is also of a mind to fist fight God but that's also his dad so. That's just family problems/classic daddy issues. I can see his personal experience with his parents being the God and Goddess of Creation having an affect on his perspective and attitude towards the gods of Sangui, but idk how that will be yet because it will depend on the gods themselves and the relationship between them and their worshippers. Taking his angelic powers away and making him mortal and also dead and then undead seems like it would be a fun thing to play with considering his relationship with perceived mortality at one point when he's exploring his feelings for Chloe Decker - so approaching the psychological element would be fun to play with a character like him!

He'll probably be :'( sad to lose his desire mojo but it's not the first time it'll have happened so he'll DEAL. Or won't and will whine about it.

WANTED CR:
Lucifer is fun as a foil against a straight-man type of character (not straight straight, you know what i mean), but he's also fun as an enabler or alongside another chaos gremlin. He's a party boy that has had some time to grow and self-reflect, so serious moments to connect with another person can be great because ~wow trust~ but also can be fun because he's still super afraid of dealing with his own feelings despite years of therapy at this point in canon (but he did also go back to hell for a while so). It's also very typical for him to be perfectly chummy and then an asshole the next moment, so for anyone that likes the "i hate you, no you're alright i guess, no wait i hate you again, wait aaaa" kind of CR then I offer you an oh-so-humble devil.

is your character a musician or musically inclined in any way? almost 100% guarantee for instant friendship.

He's not afraid to get his hands messy if someone else won't step up, but he will be upset to make a mess of his clothes. oh, what a burden to bear.

CHARACTER DIRECTION: Tiny bit of background for ya: Nicte is a rat bastard who started up a rebel witch group solely to kill innocent civilians in a gross act of revenge because an old friend in the army wronged her Once. She killed one human for every witch ever killed in the military and said SARAH ARE YOU WATCHING? DID YOU SEE? the whole time; she's basically grudgewank, but personified. Clearly she's killed people before, but she had a 'good reason' for doing it so I think it would be cool if she actually had trouble with it here. Hard to do evil bad things if you don't get to say fuck you to the American military while you're doing it am I right

Also I'm really looking forward to writing Nicte without her canon typical powers. They were pretty much the sole reason her life ended up where it is, and losing that will be so Interesting maybe just for me but there you are

WANTED CR: Literally anything. She's abrasive as all get out and dripping with sarcasm but she adores intelligence and those who can clearly think for themselves. She is able to play nice with others if she perceives them to be on her side (ie the right and correct side) also she's a massive flirt

She WAS very close with somebody who then fucked her over hard, ruined her life, and attempted to cover up her entire existence and, by using magic, forced everybody to forget about her, therefore playing the trust game will be......... difficult. But I'd love to get her in tight with other characters, & once she has a cause she'll fuckin' die for it no questions asked, so prepare for it to get like this immediately once she's won over.

Basically she's a character who can swing into extremes very easily and with little build up so I imagine characters who have more than a degree of chill may find her irritating, whereas somebody who might like to enable her would find her delightful

CHARACTER DIRECTION: tl;dr jesse is a drug addict and drug manufacturer who got way in over his head when his former high school chemistry teacher decided he wanted to cook crystal meth to pay for hospital treatments instead of being normal about it. jesse is VERY NOT COOL with killing someone to survive but he will do it if he feels he has to. it will absolutely tear him the fuck up inside though, and i have to predict it will do a number on his mental health. that being said i genuinely think a setting like this is better for him than canon so i'm manifesting only good things for him as a vampire (😬...)
WANTED CR: i would love for jesse to have some friends! i'm up for negative CR too but honestly could you ever hate this boy? i could not. drug addicts or former drug addicts, people who like to craft things out of wood, people he can surprise with his tiny genuine amount of retained chemistry knowledge, and of course father figures. this boy collects father figures like nobody else you've ever seen

VAMP ABILITIES:
* Coffin Sleeper - The irony is too damn good. They're mostly going to think it's funny.
* Long Fangs - Honestly, both they and I are aesthetic sorts and I gotta love a classic.
* Blood Memories - Gotta make up for being nerfed from semi-omnipotent somehow, and this will still let them be nosy.

CHARACTER DIRECTION: So the thing about being okay with killing? Der Tod is literally Death. The Reaper themself. Having to do it for survival is going to be very strange (doing ANYTHING for survival is going to be strange), but the idea of ending someone is no bother whatsoever. They will also probably gleefully encourage other people to kill.

Grappling with walking among people, however, in a way more substantial than dancing around people's demises is going to be a culture shock for them. I'm looking forward to the idea of exploring what Death will do when not only stripped of their title/power but also faced with actual consequences to their actions for the first time...ever. They're very, very old, but a bit of a spoiled child in terms of behavior. They don't REALLY know how to be anything more closely resembling human.

Also, vampires are awesome.

WANTED CR: I want Der Tod to cause Problems on Purpose. They are a chaotic little gremlin at heart and have emotions too big to contain them. If they decide they like you, they are possessive and intense.

I want positive CR, negative CR, the WORKS. People who have come close to Death would be fun for them to befriend - or make enemies of. AND FLIRTING. So much flirting.

also: ellie has had a few near-death experiences, but mostly she feels like a death siphon, where everyone around her dies and she's cursed to live on without them. i think having her confront that fear with ACTUAL HERR DEATH would be fun af. looking forward to it!!!

CHARACTER DIRECTION: One Man Is Really Tired and Needs to Go Home, he's a dad goddamn and he's half in charge of running an empire and HE DOESN'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. He won't be too bothered about having to kill to eat, because damn he's done worse. He's going to be injured from a chest wound pretty badly when he shows up, and mostly just like sure, this may as fucking well be a thing that happens.

This is also not the first time a God has turned up and made his life a weird fucking mess, so he just wants to avoid it AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
WANTED CR: Negative and Positive is just fine! He's a very quiet, patient man but he has a HORRENDOUS ruthless streak that doesn't lead to being forgiving if you cross his proverbial line. He's aggressive quietly and patient which doesn't make sense but he's good at being that menacing fucker is what I am trying to say and I am totally down with people deciding he doesn't pass the vibe check of not being a brooding fucker. CHARACTER / FANDOM: Zoey Westen, original character
VAMP ABILITIES: Probably going with Daywalker, long fangs, and blood memories for Zoey. Daywalker because my other possible character Sisi is going to be a Coffin Sleeper and I wanted to change it up a little. Long fangs is 1000% an aesthetic choice for me. And Blood Memories is as close as I can get to the seer powers she normally has.
CHARACTER DIRECTION: Zoey is…. NOT terribly cool with killing people to survive. She will if she has to (she’s known enough vampires to know that if she DOESN’T feed sooner or later the hunger’s going to take any sort of choice or control away and that’d be BAD), but she’s not going to be happy about it.

I’m looking forward to her dealing with not being a seer. She’s never been without her powers for so long a time before and she is going to be a little disconcerted. Add to it the whole suddenly being a vampire thing and it’s going to be a lot. But she’s fine. It’s fine. Everything is fine. She’s adaptable. But she’s going to be snarky about it.

WANTED CR: EVERYTHING. I would like everything for her. She is a sassbucket who gets into SO MUCH TROUBLE. Either because she flings herself headlong into it or it finds her. Either way – TROUBLE.
